The Foreign Office have been swift to set up a helpine for those in Japan and relatives and friends worried about loved ones who are in Japan and cannot communicate with them via mobile phone. The adivse is below and we hope it proves useful for you.
An earthquake with a magnitude of 8.9 struck 250 miles (400km) from Tokyo on 11 March. There continues to be a risk of aftershocks and tsunamis throughout Japan. You should contact the local authorities for advice, and stay away from coastal areas.
